Free radicals are natural byproducts of chemical processes, such as metabolism (Prof at University of South Florida). Free radicals are created when oxygen atoms in the blood carrying food to different cells in the body split. In this radical state, they scavenge the body looking for electron pairs. In this search they damage cells, protein and DNA.
